Sensex, Nifty closed today on account of Eid-ul-Fitr

Domestic stock exchanges BSE and NSE, forex market and commodity bourses are closed on Monday on account of Ramzan Id or Eid-ul-Fitr.

In Asia, most stock markets were trading with a positive bias in early trade. China’s Shanghai Composite advanced 0.55 per cent, followed by Hong Kong’s Heng Seng (up 0.5 per cent), Taiwan’s TWSE (up 0.49 per cent), Korea’s Kospi (0.3 per cent) and Japan’s Nikkei (up 0.03 per cent).

Stocks gained amid optimism over global growth; defensive dollar on a subdued inflation outlook in US too helped markets gain. Meanwhile, markets across Singapore and Malaysia were closed for the day.

The BSE Sensex advanced 81.81 points, or 0.26 per cent, to settle last week at 31,138.21. The NSE barometer Nifty50 declined 13.10 points, or 0.13 per cent, for the week, to settle at 9,574.95.

In the forex market, the rupee dropped 7 paise to close at a fresh three-week low of 64.59 on Friday.

The festival marks the culmination of fasting and holy month of Ramzan.
